How to Check Out Library Books
We are still working to find the most efficient way to check out library books and to have them returned to school in a timely and safe way. So far this is working! All students have a 4-book limit; they will not be able to check out until they have less than four books.
Holding/Reserving Books: I've covered how to hold books in Destiny Discover with 2nd-5th graders. A link to Destiny Discover is here; the username and password are the same ones students use to log into their district account. There is also a primary book request form and a intermediate book request form available to use. Holding or reserving books puts the student is not the same as checking out books. Please hold/request books by Tuesday evening!
Returning Books: Students can return books any time. Remote student books can be turned in to the school office. On site students return their books to the classroom. Returned books are not touched for 24 hours. If books are not returned by end of the day on Tuesday, the student may not get library books on Thursday. The earlier the books come back, the better.
Book Delivery: Books are delivered to classrooms on Wednesday afternoons (to go home Thursday) as well as Thursday. Parents of remote students are contacted when their order is ready, and those books may be picked up in the school office.
Lost or Missing Books: As of today (4/26/2021) we have 574 books overdue, and I would appreciate your help in recovering as many as possible. The school office is open Monday-Friday from 8-4pm.
Update on Sora: When students (or parents) log into Sora, they are now able to link directly to Sno-Isle ebooks to read online or check out ebook without a library card! Here's what to do:
- From the student page, click on Clever and log in. The Sora app is at the bottom. Heart it to move it to your favorites in the top row.
- When Sora asks for your school, put in Mukilteo School District 6 to sign in.
- You'll see 340 books to choose from (those are Sora books that are free to use).
- This is the best part: When you click on the 3 lines in the upper right of that screen, a settings menu pulls out. Click on Add a Library and enter Sno-Isle Libraries.
- Now open Sno-Isle. In preferences, have your students choose Juvenile.
- Now you can check out any ebook in the Sno-Isle library system!
