Welcome to 1st grade! I am Miss Bustos and I’m so excited about being your child’s teacher this year! We will learn and grow so much together as a class. I look forward to partnering with you and your little one to make sure that we make this the best year possible for them. This year we will focus a lot on literacy skills such as reading, writing, and math. We will also be doing science (solids and liquids, weather, and plants). We will work on doing many social-emotional lessons on growth mindset, empathy, friendship, conflict resolution, and more. 

I have a Bachelors’ degree from the University of Washington. Go Huskies! I also have two Master's in Mathematics and Technology from WGU. This is my fifth year teaching, and I am a former Mukilteo District Student. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy reading, baking, cooking, spending time with my family, and traveling. 

I believe that children learn best when there are clear expectations, structure, and lots of opportunities to practice and reflect on social situations. In 1st grade, they will be working on solving problems independently and depending less on adults. Students will be participating in discussions, partner talks, and hands-on explorations in order to learn about the world and develop higher-order thinking skills.
