Degrees and Certifications:
Welcome to 5th grade Band. I have been teaching Instrumental Music in this district since 2003. I currently teach Band at Columbia, Mukilteo, Horizon, Fairmount, Odyssey, and Lake Stickney Elementary schools. I also teach primary music and Special Needs music/Pe at Columbia.
I grew up in Pullman WA and attended WSU. I have been playing instruments since I was in the 4th grade. I participated in the Cougar Marching Band and even marched in the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena CA.
I met my husband in college and moved to Everett in 2001. I have 3 beautiful daughters who also love music. My oldest currently plays trumpet in the OV band.
Learning to play an instrument can be very exciting and also difficult. It takes patience and practice. I will teach you the very basics and by the end of the year, you will be able to play many different songs. You will also be ready to join the Middle School bands where you will have the opportunity to travel and participate in parade performances. You will have a lot of fun if you stick with it.
Columbia Band Announcements
If you borrowed an instrument from the school district (you will have a tag on your case that says MSD#6 elem band), you will need to return it to school. Please plan on dropping it off when you come to school to pick up items, drop off books, etc. on June 17. You will be given a time frame.
Hello 5th graders. Many of you participated in band and orchestra this year. You have the option to continue in Middle school. Some of you have already signed up. Some of you did not play this year, but would like to. You are welcome to join the band or orchestra even if you have no experience. I have attached a video from Mr. Moody who teaches band at Harbour Pointe. Please watch. It is not too late to sign up. If you have already registered and want to change your schedule to include band or orchestra, please contact Mr. Moody Moodysj@mukilteo.wednet.edu, Mrs. Bathurst BathurstDL@mukilteo.wednet.edu, or Mrs. Francisco FranciscoMM@mukilteo.wednet.edu.
Lisa Martin, 5th grade band
Hi band students and families,
I hope you are well. I know we are living in an interesting time. I miss not being able to teach you in person and hear your progress. I hope you are all taking some time to practice your instruments.
I am putting lessons under the resources tab for you to help with your practicing. Please take some time to look through them. I will be putting practice sheets for fingering practice, lessons on subjects such as key signatures, and other helpful tips.
If you have any questions, please send me an email. If you would like, you could record yourself playing and send it to me. I would like to hear your progress.
Please go through your band book and practice the exercises, making sure you check the colored boxes at the top of the pages.
Please continue to check my page for updates.
Stay safe and keep playing.
