Dear OP Families,
During the next few months, I hope you and your family are able to stay healthy and enjoy your summer. It has been a long couple of months with many challenges, but I am hopeful you have been blessed as well. I am proud of our Olivia Park community and how we made the best of a difficult situation and know we will strengthen the school and family partnership during the 2020-21 school year. With so many uncertainties in our community, the support we can offer each other is more valuable than ever.
If you need anything this summer, please reach out to me or any staff member. In very real ways, we have your backs and will work hard to help you even when we can't see each other. I am excited for the day we can welcome your children back into classrooms and return to a feeling of normalcy. Until then, please take care.
Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Rick Bishop
I became the Dean of Students at Olivia Park Elementary School during the 2017-18 school year. Before becoming dean of students, I was a 5th grade teacher for 10 years at Olivia Park. Prior to working at Olivia Park, I was a 4th grade teacher at Horizon Elementary in the Mukilteo School District and also taught in Montana and California. I am a Montana native and a proud graduate of Montana State University. Go Bobcats!
As a school wide behavior support and safety coordinator, I work closely with students, staff, and families to create a safe educational environment for students at Olivia Park. I am certified in Right Response and help facilitate positive behavior initiatives used in school promoting valued character traits.
As the state standardized testing coordinator for Olivia Park, I assist with the preparation and instruction for the Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA), Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS), STAR assessments, and the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) to ensure testing is completed in a secure environment and parents receive results in a timely manner.
On a personal level, I am married with two children. My wife, Sarah, is a PE teacher at Olivia Park and a great commuting partner and coworker. My sons, Jaxson and Owen, are big sports fans like their parents. Jaxson attends Montana State University and plans to become a high school teacher and soccer coach. Owen, a baseball player at South Dakota State University, is majoring in mechanical engineering.
