Career and Post High School Goals and Reflection - Due Date October 12th
Purpose. The purpose of the Career & Post High School Goals is to focus your attention on committing to a post high school plan and identifying the action steps you need to take to make your plan a reality. The Reflection is to help the students understand how the HighSchool and Beyond plan has helped them formulate and understand their Post High School opportunities and goals.
Creating Career & Post-High School Plan. Create in the “High School & Beyond Plan” page.
- Log into WOIS. Site Key cvw895 User ID MUK(student#) Password Pw(mmddyyyy)
- Under the “Portfolio – Main Menu” (center of page), click on “High School & Beyond Plan” OR under “Portfolio” in the left navigation menu, click on “HS & Beyond Plan.”
- Locate the “Career & Post-High School Goals” heading.
- Select the “Grade” using the drop down menu: Select Grade “12.”
- Click add/edit
- Enter your top choice for your “Career Cluster” box (first line). Remember this is a plan, not a contract. Your plans may change as you learn and grow.
- Under “Post-high school plans,” Fill in at least TWO options for after high school (e.g. Four Year College” and “2 Year Transfer to 4 Year” OR “Employment” and “Military.” BE HONEST about your plans.
- In the “Post-HS reflections” box, add three action steps you will take this semester to make your plan a reality.

The Resume - Due Date December 21, 2018

Purpose. Your resume summarizes your accomplishments, work history and professional direction. It is a working document that changes depending on where you apply and why you are using it. The HS & Beyond PlanResume is meant to reflect your education, skills and where you’ve connected that education to extra-curricular activities, volunteering, or working.
Basic Features. There are some basic features to a résumé. Again, what you are applying for will dictate the form and features you include. The following list includes common sections of a résumé and is divided into “Always Included” and “Optional.” However, for this requirement you will need to follow the HSBP Resume Rubric in order to meet standard. It is attached.

Due Dates. We will look at your résumé when it is uploaded under “Files.” You need to turn in a polished, final product that is well-edited. Colleges, scholarship committees and employers eliminate applicants who have spelling, grammatical, and/or punctuation issues in their résumé and application materials.
Approval. To check the status of your résumé approval, use WOIS. Go to “Portfolio” then “Checklists” then “Progress Report Checklist.” It is your responsibility to meet this requirement by the due date.
Resources.There are many resources on the web if you need additional help. Two excellent resources are Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL) and WOIS.

Creating a résumé. There are three (3) options for creating a résuméto meet this requirement.
- Update an existing résuméyou may have already created then upload into WOIS.
- Create a résumé using an MS Word template (or create your own) then upload into WOIS.
- Create a résumé in WOIS, download it, put it in a MS Word document, and then upload to WOIS.
Uploading a Résumé in WOIS
All options require uploading your resume to WOIS. Uploading a document in WOIS is very easy.
- Log into WOIS.
- Under “Portfolio” in the left navigation menu, click on “Resumes.”
- Under the “Files” heading, click on “Upload File.”
- Name your resume: “HSBP Resume.”
- In the “File*” field, click on “Browse…” Find the résumé file you created/updated and click “Open” in the navigation window.
- Click
- Your document is now uploaded and ready for review.
Updating an Existing Résumé
If you already have a résumé, simplyupdate it with your most current skills, academic history, and/or job and volunteer experiences. Make sure you review the HSBP Resume Rubric and modify your current résumé to meet the HSBP standard. Name it “HSBP Résumé” and upload to WOIS.
Create a Résumé using an MS Word Template
The instructions for accessing templates included here are based on MS Word 2013 or newer.
- Open up a new Word document.
- Click on the “File” tab and select “New” on the left navigation bar.
- In the Search box, type “resume.”
- Select a template you like and fill in the information. You can change titles as you need or prefer. You can also delete sections you do not need.
- Make sure you review the HSBP Resume Rubric and modify your current résumé to meet the HSBP standard.
- Upload your résumé to WOIS.
Create a Résumé in WOIS
- Log into WOIS.
- Under “Portfolio” in the left navigation menu, click on “Resumes.”
- As mentioned on “The Résumé” overview page, information on how to write a resume is available in WOIS. Once in the résumé builder, click on “How to Write a Resume."
- Click on “Create New Résumé.” (This link is dark blue and is the second section under “Resumes.”)
- Give your résumé a title, such as “HSBP Resume_Your Name” or “Job Resume_Your Name.”
- Select the Functional résumé type.
- Write an objective. For the HSBP Résumé, your objective is your post-high school education and your career pathway. For example:
- Work in a daycare to gain experience and training in child care and education
- Enlist in the Army, be trained in an area that focuses on Health Sciences, with the long-term goal of achieving the rank of Master Sergeant
- Attend Everett Community College and earn degree in Criminal Justice
- Attend Western Washington University and explore options in the areas of Education
and Training and Health Sciences
(To find more information on writing an objective for a job, click on the “More info…” link next to the “Title, Objective, and Resume Type” heading.
- Click
- Fill in the fields for each section that is required. Remember to use the HSBP Rubric, which is attached and available on the CCC web site.
Click on the “Add…”button in each section to upload the information for that section to the résumé. If you do not click the “Add…” button, the information you entered will not add to your résumé. Once you click the “Add...: button, you will notice that the information you “added” will now be in blue just above the input field. If you see an error or want to fix/add to the information, click on the blue text and a new screen will open with the text now in an entry field. Fix/add what you want, then click “Save changes.”
- The “Add…” button also allows you to input additional qualifications, work experiences, awards, education, etc. After you add another set of information for that section, click the “Add…” button again to upload the new text to your résumé.
- Once you are finished with all of the sections and field entries, scroll back to the top of the screen and locate the “Resume type*” heading. Click the button:
- This next step is VERY IMPORTANT. At the top of the “Resume Builder” page, you will see a series of hyperlinks under the “Portfolio – Resumes – View/Edit Details” heading. Click on the “View/Print Resume” hyperlink:
- Look at your contact information at the top of the résumé. If your name and “, WA” are the only pieces of information showing for you contact information, you need to click on the “Edit/update your address” link to update your contact information.
- When you are finished, click “Save changes.” If you can’t save, try using another browser, such as Explorer. This program currently has trouble with Chrome.
You will be taken back to the WOIS main menu (strange, but true).
Click on “Resumes” in the left navigation menu to get back to your résumé. Under “Resumes” click on the title link you created for your résumé. Follow the instructions in Item 12 above to view your résumé.
If you need to edit/revise your résumé after reviewing it, click on the “View/Edit Details” hyperlink in the under the “Portfolio – Resumes – View/Edit Details” heading:
Once you are done editing/revising, make sure to click on . Your résumé is now updated in your Portfolio. You can make as many updates/changes as need to your résumé, just make sure to save change.
- Download your résumé by clicking on the “View/Print Resume” link on the top navigation pane under the “Portfolios-Resumes-View/Edit Details” heading.
- Copy and paste the résumé text into a MS Word document and format the résumé so that it looks professional. Proofread, proofread, proofread. Save.
- Upload the résumé into WOIS (see instructions above).
