Dear Mukilteo School District families,

REMINDER: Any families impacted by war are invited to join us Tuesday, May 24, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Voyager Middle School to get support with mental health, legal and immigration information, and other resources. Interpreters for Russian, Ukrainian, Dari and Arabic will be available. Childcare, activities for children to learn basic coping skills and light refreshments will be provided. See May 13 family message for more details.

STRATEGIC PLAN UPDATE: In March we shared with you the district is developing a strategic plan. We have completed most of the initial community engagement, primarily gathered through over 100 in-depth interviews with staff, past and current students, families, and community members. Some of the key themes we heard were:

  • District vision
  • Trust, culture, respect
  • Distribution of resources
  • Family and community engagement and communication
  • Staff support and engagement
  • Student well-being and belonging
  • Value of diversity
  • Student opportunities and outcomes
  • Service and agility

One thousand people participated in the online ThoughtExchange around the question, “What are the most important skills and experiences our students need to prepare them for success in learning and life?” The top themes we saw from all participant groups in that exchange were about critical thinking, communication and collaboration. You can view more themes and all thoughts in this interactive, online report.

The current phase of the process is reviewing and summarizing the feedback from many sources and using that to draft the top priorities and strategies on which district staff should focus. The draft priorities and strategies will be shared with various audiences for feedback in the coming months and eventually presented to the school board. You can follow the progress on the Strategic Plan website.

Thanks to those who participated in the ThoughtExchange or interviews to help us make Mukilteo School District an even better place to learn!

Sincerely,

Mukilteo School District
