Medication at School - 3416

The Superintendent will establish procedures for the administration of medication at school; ensuring the safe storage of the medication; and designating the staff person(s) to administer the medication. The regulations will contain the following provisions:

  1. Under normal circumstances, medication should be dispensed before and/or after school hours under the supervision of the parent or guardian.

  2. If a student must receive prescribed oral or topical medication, eye drops, nasal spray, or ear drops and/or over-the-counter medication ("medications") at school, the Medication Authorization form (H-144) must be completed and signed by the parent and prescribing licensed health professional within the scope of their prescriptive authority.

  3. The School District will substantially comply with the schedule of administration indicated by the licensed health professional. Agreements by school personnel to administer medication are only valid during regularly scheduled school hours.

  4. Over-the-counter topical sunscreen products may be possessed and used by students, parents, and school staff without a written prescription or note from a licensed health care provider if the following conditions are met: a) the product is regulated by the US Food and Drug Administration as an over-the-counter sunscreen product; and b) if possessed by a student, the product is provided to the student by a parent or guardian.
