Private Vehicle Transportation - 8131

The Board recognizes that from time to time educationally valid student activities are economical, practical, and possible only if students engaged in such activities are permitted to drive their own vehicles or to be transported in privately owned vehicles.

The Board requires that the following conditions be met before any student be permitted to drive or to ride in a privately owned vehicle while engaged in a school directed activity.

  1. Transportation is related to a specific school or class assignment made by an administrator or classroom teacher and is approved in writing by the building principal or designee.

  2. Specific dates, times, and destinations are indicated in writing.

  3. Written parental/guardian permission has been given.

  4. The driver has a valid Washington State driver's license.

  5. The driver understands that the District may submit their driver's license number to the Department of Motor Vehicles for review.

  6. All operators transporting students, other than their own children, must meet District training requirements.

  7. The driver carries liability insurance for the minimum combined single limits bodily injury and property damage of $100,000 per person/$300,000 per occurrence and such insurance is primary over any collectible insurance.

  8. Persons transporting pupils on trips of more than ten (10) miles from the School District or of more than four (4) hours duration must have a minimum of five (5) years driving experience.
