Half of Mukilteo School District's schools are over 40 years old, including some originally built in the 1950s.
As school buildings age, they require more frequent and costly repairs. Aging heating and ventilation systems, deteriorating roofs and windows, outdated plumbing and electrical systems, and aging infrastructure can disrupt learning, increase maintenance costs, limit educational opportunities, and make it more difficult to provide safe, secure, and engaging learning environments.
To address these needs, the district has proposed a $400 million bond package that would:
- Continue planned replacement and construction projects at Explorer Middle School, Mukilteo Elementary School, Serene Lake Elementary School, and Olivia Park Elementary School
- Increase student safety and security
- Replace temporary portable classrooms with permanent classrooms
- Expand Career and Technical Education (CTE) learning spaces
- Replace or update critical building systems, including HVAC, windows, roofs, and plumbing
- Improve technology and data security infrastructure
- Address the safety and accessibility of fields, gyms, and playgrounds

How the Bond Recommendation was Developed
The bond recommendation was developed through a community-led process. Over the past two school years, the Capital Bond Advisory Committees (CBAC) have reviewed building conditions, site challenges, enrollment trends, costs and community feedback.
